Been mixing it up a bit lately, now that I have my YouTube music downloader, the music keeps coming in. This looks like it’s gonna be a chapter of Remix’s. I want to give a special shout out to my Pandora account for helping me find some new tunes while also managing to play me the same boring crap over and over. You win some and lose some, but new tunes are new tunes and always have a place on my playlists. Jumping onto my iTunes I can see what I have been playing mostly lately.
Here is a cool band out of Boston hitting the listener with indie, electronic, and trance sounds. Cool vibes and a cool feeling listening to these guys. You know you have a good band when your keyboardists name is Pete Keys. This is my personal ‘Best Coast,’ those hipsters won’t know what hit them. You will need plenty of space for a two-step and hip-dips for this song, so be up and be active. Find the sketches New Yorker you know and listen over Sour Diesel or a White Widow strain, for a head (and hip) high you will be glad to take advantage of.
M83
The smooth sound of M83 combines some indie flavor with the occasional electronic beat. Songs like Graveyard Girl have the elements to pull in the mind and trap it for awhile. Play after a bowl of a nice indica strain and let the sound absorb, expect the party to be quiet for a bit as your mind wonders to the relaxed sound. Listen to the song Couleurs as the smoke starts to clear for a nice set-up into the rest of their work. Other songs to hear are Kim & Jessie, and also Slowly
Faunts
The band of the Jam sesh. I especially like the chill vibe of this band from the small town indie band feel with the clearly defined sound. This elated style of music is great background in any creative venture, one of my favorites when drawing on the chalk-board. Smoke anything with this band and you’ll be able to relate, sativas to take advantage of the thinking and an indica to absorb the sound. Hit up the songs Explain, and Of Nature for that ‘all over high’ feeling. This is mind-set music at it’s finest, I haven’t found a way not to enjoy this band yet.
Kid Cudi Pursuit of Happiness (Steve Aoki Remix)
Clearly we have a good combination, the combination of Kid Cudi’s motivating lyrics with the pick-up of Steve Aoki’s background track help to turn an already solid lyrical performance into a song that will get your stoned fists pumping. The trancy back noise is just enough for the occasional electronic user. Smoke a nice sativa and prepare for lift-off, if this isn’t the song to motivate you for a night of blunts and 40′s you should stay on the couch. This song should be experienced on the move, not in your chair. The intro is designed as the Hokie-Pokie for stoners, leave your left foot in and “Crush a bit, little bit, roll it up, take a hit.” If you are a fan of the original version, this remix provides the beat to collaborate very nicely with the vibe and tone of Kid Cudi’s lyrics. This is “I Got a Feeling” for stoners, do the bird hands and dance like Spicoli to this jam.
Whitest Boy Alive Golden Cage (Fred Falke Remix)
Yeah, I know you people give me crap for these trance remixes, but sometimes you need to feel your music. Fred Falke’s remix of Golden Cage is an up-lifting fresh out of bed song. If I woke up every morning and this was playing I could imagine myself probably putting clothes on, followed with jogging and or hitting the bags. Unfortunately, I never wake up feeling like this, but two hours into my morning over a cup of coffee, I am ready to go. My Italian heritage is making it exceptionally difficult not to start fist-pumping. This song has the length you need in a pick-me-up but you never realize till its over that you just lost 8 1/2 minutes of your day. I am in no way a trance master, but have found this remix to be very exceptional to an already great song.
Miike Snow Animal (Punks Jump Up Remix)
Car dancing at it’s finest, buckle up and turn on the bass (sorry back-seaters). This is arms in the air nothing on the steering wheel kind of music. Cruise to your local warehouse party and have the motivation for a night on the dance floor, the car dancing is better on your hips and heels. Don’t forget your singles, a night starting with this remix is going to need supplementation from dollar beers and dollar tacos (fourth meal). A true hipster night can be yours, so lay down and pull up those skinny jeans get in the whip and go.
